What is Underdog?

Underdog is a personal AI assistant from Conway Research that runs fully on your own device instead of in a cloud data center. It launched as an invite-only beta in October 2026 for Macs with Apple silicon, with other platforms planned, and is built around the idea that an assistant should be able to help with sensitive tasks without your private data leaving hardware you control.

It uses a 27-billion-parameter on-device model with Conway's Husky inference engine to handle everyday work like booking flights, reserving tables, ordering groceries, and canceling subscriptions — asking for approval before any purchase or cancellation. Email connects to Gmail and Outlook with credentials stored on the device, meeting notes are transcribed and summarized locally, and dictation works across apps.
