What is SynthID Detector?

SynthID Detector is Google's public verification portal for AI-generated media. Upload an image, video, or audio file and it looks for the invisible SynthID watermark that Google and its partners embed when content is created, then tells you whether a recognized mark is present.

It opened to everyone globally in English on October 7, 2026, after an earlier limited test with journalists and researchers. It is not a general AI detector — it can only identify media from tools that use SynthID, which now includes Google's own generation models and partners OpenAI, NVIDIA, and Kakao, with Apple support planned. The same checks are also built into Google Search, the Gemini app, and Chrome.
